Fieldfisher scores

Six scores, each 1 to 5. The evidence for each is further down.

Help when things go wrong 3/5

Who carries the risk if the advice is wrong 3/5

What Fieldfisher offers, and what it publishes

You get a named team inside a regulated law firm. Partner Hazel Grant heads its Data and Privacy Group, which advises on data compliance, AI, cyber security and data use. Legal 500 ranks the London team in Tier 3 and names five lawyers: Grant, Leonie Power, Nuria Pastor, Kirsten Whitfield and Lorna Cropper.

Fieldfisher does not publish a price. Its site shows no rate card, fixed fee or hourly rate for data protection or AI work. We found no page on how it uses AI with client data, or on its own indemnity cover, which as a regulated firm it must hold.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority lists no disciplinary decisions against it. It acted for four children suing Refinitiv in the High Court under UK GDPR; the court approved a settlement in April 2026. We found no case of it defending a client against the ICO, the UK data regulator. It also licenses its own Data Compliance Manager software.

Strengths

  • Dedicated, named Data and Privacy Group (Hazel Grant, Leonie Power and others) with an independently published Legal 500 ranking for London data protection, privacy and cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated contentious data-protection track record: instructed counsel in a landmark UK High Court GDPR claim (Refinitiv/World-Check) through to a settlement approved by the court in 2026.
  • SRA-recognised body since 2011 with no disciplinary or regulatory decisions currently published on the public register.

Things to check

  • Legal 500's independently published ranking places Fieldfisher's London data-protection, privacy and cybersecurity practice in Tier 3, not the top ranking tier for that category.
  • Fieldfisher licenses its own 'Data Compliance Manager' compliance-software product to clients alongside paid legal advice, a commercial software interest relevant to independence from a software funnel.

Common questions

Does Fieldfisher publish its fees?

No. Its site shows no rate card, fixed fee or hourly rate for data protection or AI work.

Is Fieldfisher regulated?

Yes. The Solicitors Regulation Authority has recognised it since 1 November 2011, authorises it for all legal services and lists no disciplinary decisions against it.

Who leads its data protection work?

Hazel Grant, a partner and co-head of technology and data. Legal 500 ranks the London team in Tier 3, not its highest tier, and also names Leonie Power, Nuria Pastor, Kirsten Whitfield and Lorna Cropper.

Does Fieldfisher sell software as well as advice?

Yes. It licenses Data Compliance Manager, a set of compliance modules built on Lawcadia's platform, alongside its legal advice. The product page says Lawcadia's platform is ISO 27001 certified; we found no such certificate for Fieldfisher itself.

Notes behind each thing to check

  • Legal 500's independently published ranking places Fieldfisher's London data-protection, privacy and cybersecurity practice in Tier 3, not the top ranking tier for that category. (legal500.com ranking page for Data protection, privacy and cybersecurity, London, read 2026-09-19)
  • Fieldfisher licenses its own 'Data Compliance Manager' compliance-software product to clients alongside paid legal advice, a commercial software interest relevant to independence from a software funnel. (lawcadia.com/fieldfisher-data-compliance-manager, describing the product as powered by a licensed third-party platform, read 2026-09-19)
Six criteria, each scored 1 to 5, with the evidence for each.
CriterionScoreEvidence
Help when things go wrong 3/5 Led High Court GDPR litigation for child claimants v Refinitiv (World-Check case), settled 2026; clean SRA disciplinary record, but no verified example of defending a client against ICO enforcement was found.
Qualifications of the people who do the work 4/5 SRA-recognised body (no. 441075) since 2011, authorised for all legal services; Legal 500 independently ranks its London data-protection team with 5 named lawyers.
What it publishes about fees 2/5 No public rate card, fixed fee or hourly-rate information for data-protection or AI-governance advisory work was found on Fieldfisher's own site in this research pass.
Knowledge of your sector 5/5 Dedicated Data and Privacy Group led by named partners (Hazel Grant, Leonie Power); Legal 500-ranked team ran a landmark UK GDPR High Court case to settlement.
Independence from what it sells 4/5 Primarily a fee-earning law firm; also licenses a data-compliance software suite built on a third-party platform to clients alongside its legal advice.
Who carries the risk if the advice is wrong 3/5 As an SRA-recognised body Fieldfisher must hold professional indemnity insurance to SRA minimum terms, but the firm's own specific PII disclosure page could not be directly verified this pass, so this reflects the regulatory baseline only.

  • High Court GDPR litigation track record (Fieldfisher instructed counsel (Sara Mansoori KC and Ian Helme) for four child claimants in a High Court claim against Refinitiv Ltd over UK GDPR processing on the World-Check database; settlement approved by Mr Justice Sheldon, reported ~20-24 April 2026) (matrixlaw.co.uk, checked 19 September 2026)
  • Compliance software offered alongside legal advice (Fieldfisher offers 'Data Compliance Manager', described as 'a suite of data compliance modules ... powered by Lawcadia's ISO 27001 certified legal operations platform', licensed to clients alongside advisory work) (lawcadia.com, checked 19 September 2026)
  • Trustpilot: Fieldfisher has a claimed Trustpilot profile with a small number of reviews (23) and a polarised, roughly bimodal rating (majority 5-star with a large 1-star minority, few reviews in between); positive reviews single out individual solicitors' compassion and communication in personal injury and clinical negligence matters, while negative reviews cite slow responsiveness and hard-to-reach service, including one property client calling the firm "old fashioned and slow". With only 23 reviews this is not a statistically robust signal, and it reflects individual case-handling experience across the firm's broad practice (much of it personal injury), not specifically its data-protection/AI-governance advisory work.
