What Intertek offers, and what it publishes
UKAS accredits Intertek Certification Ltd for 11 standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and the anti-bribery standard ISO 37001. ISO 42001, the AI management standard, is not on its UKAS schedule dated 25 March 2026. Intertek says it holds ISO 42001 accreditation from JAS-ANZ, the Australia and New Zealand accreditation body.
Intertek does not publish a price, rate card or worked example; enquiries go to an email address for a quote. Complaints go to a named Director of Certification, and appeals against a decision must be made in writing within 20 working days. We found no liability or insurance terms.
UKAS named Intertek in September 2025 as one of seven certification bodies nearing ISO 42001 accreditation. In January 2026, BSI became the first to finish. The UK company had 17 employees in 2024; the group reports over 45,000. Trustpilot showed 1.8 out of 5 from 16 reviews on 17 July 2026.
Strengths
- Genuinely UKAS-accredited for a broad set of management-system standards including ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 45001, ISO 22000 and the anti-bribery standard ISO 37001
- Named as one of only seven certification bodies UKAS selected for its original AI management system (AIMS) pilot programme, ahead of DNV, Bureau Veritas, Amtivo and Centre for Assessment
- Already holds a live ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation from JAS-ANZ (Australia/New Zealand), evidencing genuine AIMS auditing capability even though the UK/UKAS accreditation is not yet in place
- Backed by Intertek Group plc, a London-listed global testing, inspection and certification group with £3.43bn FY2025 revenue and established global reach
- Published complaints and appeals process naming a specific Director of Certification and a 20-working-day appeal window
Things to check
- Not yet UKAS-accredited for ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management systems) in the UK, despite being named in UKAS's original AIMS pilot cohort and already holding AIMS accreditation from JAS-ANZ for other markets
- Operates as part of a large multinational, London-listed TIC conglomerate, the same large multi-service-firm scale profile this site flags elsewhere (e.g. Forvis Mazars)
- Poor independently checkable Trustpilot rating (1.8/5 from 16 reviews, 88% 1-star)
- No published pricing, rate card or worked cost example for certification services

How large is Intertek in the UK?
Its UK certifying company reported £3.18m revenue and 17 employees in 2024, with UK audit work recharged from other group companies. Intertek Group plc reported £3,431.6m revenue and over 45,000 employees worldwide for 2025.
How do I appeal a certification decision?
In writing, within 20 working days of the decision. Complaints go to a named Director of Certification, Greg Childs.

Notes behind each thing to check
- Not yet UKAS-accredited for ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management systems) in the UK, despite being named in UKAS's original AIMS pilot cohort and already holding AIMS accreditation from JAS-ANZ for other markets (Intertek Certification Ltd's live UKAS Schedule of Accreditation (ref. 0014, Issue No. 096, issued 25 March 2026), fetched and full-text searched directly on 17 July 2026, contains no mention of ISO/IEC 42001 or AIMS, even though UKAS names Intertek as one of seven original AIMS pilot participants and Intertek separately holds a JAS-ANZ AIMS accreditation)
- Operates as part of a large multinational, London-listed TIC conglomerate, the same large multi-service-firm scale profile this site flags elsewhere (e.g. Forvis Mazars) (Intertek Group plc's FY2025 full-year results announcement states £3,431.6m statutory revenue and 'over 45,000 employees in over 1,000 locations in 100 countries')
- Poor independently checkable Trustpilot rating (1.8/5 from 16 reviews, 88% 1-star) (Intertek's Trustpilot profile, live-checked on 17 July 2026, shows a 1.8 TrustScore from 16 reviews, with reviews describing unanswered enquiries and a dismissed formal complaint)
- No published pricing, rate card or worked cost example for certification services (Intertek's UK business assurance page directs all pricing enquiries to a named contact email rather than publishing rates)
| Criterion | Score | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Help when things go wrong | A general complaint-handling and appeals process exists, including a right to escalate unresolved appeals to the relevant accreditation body, but no named lead auditors or disclosed outcome case studies were found | |
| Qualifications of the people who do the work | Intertek holds the broadest genuine UKAS scope of the five providers in this profile group (11 standards), is named in UKAS's original AIMS pilot, and already holds a JAS-ANZ AIMS accreditation elsewhere, but it still does not hold live UKAS accreditation for ISO/IEC 42001 in the UK as of 25 March 2026 | |
| What it publishes about fees | No prices, rate card or worked cost examples are published; enquiries are directed to a named contact email only | |
| Knowledge of your sector | Intertek organises its Business Assurance offering around named divisions, Consumer Products, Corporate Assurance, Health and Safety, Industry and Infrastructure, and World of Energy | |
| Independence from what it sells | A published Quality and Impartiality Policy addresses conflict-of-interest management generally, but the fetched text does not contain an explicit sentence separating consultancy work from certification decisions | |
| Who carries the risk if the advice is wrong | A complaints and appeals process is published with an escalation route to the accreditation body, but no explicit response-time commitment or liability/insurance disclosure was found |

- UKAS accreditation does not currently cover ISO/IEC 42001 (AIMS) (Intertek Certification Ltd's live UKAS Schedule of Accreditation (ref. 0014), Issue No. 096, issued 25 March 2026, lists ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 20000-1, ISO 22000, ISO 22301, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 37001, ISO 45001, ISO 55001, ANSI/ASIS PSC.1 and ISO 44001 as accredited scope; a full-text search of the document for '42001', 'AIMS' and 'Artificial Intelligence Management System' returns zero matches, confirmed by direct PDF fetch on 17 July 2026) (ukas.com, checked 17 July 2026)
- Intertek was named as one of seven original UKAS AIMS pilot participants but has not yet converted this to a live accreditation (A UKAS news update (5 September 2025) names Intertek Certification Ltd as one of 'the first tranche of seven certification bodies nearing completion' of ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation, alongside Alcumus ISOQAR, BSI Assurance UK, LRQA, NQA Certification, Schellman Compliance LLC and TUV UK, but UKAS's first AIMS accreditation announcement (15 January 2026) names only BSI as having completed the process, and Intertek's own live UKAS schedule (25 March 2026, issued after that announcement) still does not list ISO 42001) (ukas.com, checked 17 July 2026)
- Intertek holds ISO/IEC 42001 accreditation via JAS-ANZ (Australia/New Zealand), not UKAS (Intertek's own press release states it 'has been formally accredited by JAS-ANZ [Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand] ... to deliver certification services globally to ISO/IEC 42001:2023' (30 July 2025); its accreditations page lists JAS-ANZ among Intertek Certification Ltd's accreditation bodies, separate from and in addition to UKAS) (intertek.com, checked 17 July 2026)
