What SGS North America offers, and what it publishes

SGS North America is a certification body: it audits organisations and issues certificates. ANAB's directory lists its certificate, SGS-MS-3454, as accredited for ISO/IEC 27001, 27701 and 42001, as well as ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001, AS9100 and AS9120. The directory shows no suspension. SGS says the group has 100,000 employees and works in 115 countries.

SGS North America does not publish a price. Its US ISO/IEC 27001 page offers only 'Request a quote' and 'Contact Us'. It does not publish its indemnity cover, a liability cap, its lead auditors or US client case studies. It does not say whether it uses AI in its own audits.

SGS also sells ISO 9001 training on the same US site where it offers ISO 9001 certification. We could not find an impartiality policy for the US company explaining how it keeps the two apart. On Trustpilot, sgs.com has 1.9 out of 5 from 15 reviews covering the whole group, and SGS has not replied to the negative ones.

Strengths

  • Holds a current ANAB accreditation (certificate SGS-MS-3454) with an explicit scope covering ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 42001, directly checkable in ANAB's public certification-body directory.
  • Legal identity independently confirmed via New Jersey's Division of Revenue & Enterprise Services business register (entity 0100185137, on file since 1/5/1983).
  • Backed by the large, long-established SGS group (SGS's own site cites 100,000+ employees and 2,500+ labs/facilities across 115 countries), giving operational scale and continuity beyond a small independent certifier.

Things to check

  • No prices, rate card or worked cost example are published for SGS North America's ISO/IEC 27001 or ISO 9001 certification services; all enquiries route to a quote-request form.
  • SGS sells ISO 9001 management-system training directly to the same US market as its ANAB-accredited ISO 9001 certification, without a locatable published impartiality policy explaining how the two are kept separate.
  • No professional indemnity insurance level, liability cap or stated incident-support commitment specific to SGS North America Inc.'s certification services was found published on its US site.
  • No named lead auditors, practitioner credentials or ISO 27001/42001-specific US client case studies were found; the only named contact in the public accreditation record is an administrative contact, not a technical specialist.

Common questions

No. Its US ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 pages offer 'Request a quote' or 'Contact Us', with no rate card or worked example.

Is SGS North America accredited for ISO 42001?

Yes. ANAB's directory lists certificate SGS-MS-3454 as 'Accredited' for ISO/IEC 42001, 27001 and 27701, among other standards. The directory shows no issue or expiry date.

Yes. SGS sells ISO 9001 training on sgs.com alongside its ISO 9001 certification. We could not find a published impartiality policy for the US company explaining how the two are kept apart.

Notes behind each thing to check

  • No prices, rate card or worked cost example are published for SGS North America's ISO/IEC 27001 or ISO 9001 certification services; all enquiries route to a quote-request form. (https://www.sgs.com/en-us/service-groups/iso-iec-27001-information-security, checked 2026-09-20, shows 'Request a quote' / 'Contact Us' with no pricing content.)
  • SGS sells ISO 9001 management-system training directly to the same US market as its ANAB-accredited ISO 9001 certification, without a locatable published impartiality policy explaining how the two are kept separate. (https://www.sgs.com/en-us/service-groups/iso-9001-training advertises training on the same standard SGS is accredited to certify (ANAB certificate SGS-MS-3454); no distinct impartiality/independence statement for SGS North America was found on sgs.com despite search.)
  • No professional indemnity insurance level, liability cap or stated incident-support commitment specific to SGS North America Inc.'s certification services was found published on its US site. (Checked https://www.sgs.com/en-us/terms-and-conditions and the ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 service pages on 2026-09-20; none discloses PI cover or liability terms for the certification business.)
  • No named lead auditors, practitioner credentials or ISO 27001/42001-specific US client case studies were found; the only named contact in the public accreditation record is an administrative contact, not a technical specialist. (ANAB directory record for SGS-MS-3454 lists Contact Name 'Viq Mohammed' with no auditor names or case studies; https://anabdirectory.remoteauditor.com/Certificate/Browse?CertificationBody=SGS&StandardId=02872A81-2FB3-44CD-90C9-65A75CAF4696, checked 2026-09-20.)
Six criteria, each scored 1 to 5, with the evidence for each.
CriterionScoreEvidence
Help when things go wrong 2/5 No named lead auditors, disclosed audit-outcome case studies, or described complaints/incident-support process specific to SGS North America Inc. were found on its US pages. ANAB's directory shows certificate SGS-MS-3454 with status 'Accredited' and no suspension/withdrawal indicated, but ANAB publishes no separate public sanctions list to independently cross-check that status against.
Qualifications of the people who do the work 5/5 ANAB's public certification-body directory lists SGS North America Inc. (certificate SGS-MS-3454, New Jersey) with status 'Accredited' and an explicit scope covering ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701 and ISO/IEC 42001 alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, AS9100 and AS9120, directly checkable against the published register; the directory does not itself display an issue/expiry date for the certificate.
What it publishes about fees 1/5 SGS's US ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 service pages carry a 'Request a quote' / 'Contact Us' call to action with no prices, rate card or worked cost example published anywhere on the pages checked.
Knowledge of your sector 2/5 SGS North America's ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001 service pages carry generic descriptive copy only, with no named US practitioners, auditor biographies or sector-specific case studies found; the ANAB directory record names a single administrative contact rather than technical specialists.
Independence from what it sells 3/5 SGS North America publicly sells ISO 9001 training on the same sgs.com domain as its ANAB-accredited ISO 9001 certification, and no specific, locatable published impartiality policy document for the US entity was found (as of 2026-09-20) describing how certification is kept separate from that training/consulting-adjacent work. SGS's own group-level impartiality-committee framework and separate 'Consulting' service line (documented for the sister SGS UK record in this dataset) could not be independently re-confirmed for SGS North America Inc. specifically.
Who carries the risk if the advice is wrong 1/5 No professional indemnity insurance level, liability cap or stated incident-support commitment specific to SGS North America Inc.'s certification services was found published on sgs.com's US pages, including its general terms-and-conditions page, within the pages checked.
