Socotec Certification United Kingdom Limited review

Certification body

A UK certification body in the SOCOTEC group. UKAS accredits it for six standards, including ISO/IEC 27001:2022 for information security, but not ISO/IEC 42001 for AI.

Relevant if you want UKAS-accredited ISO 27001 certification and do not need ISO 42001

What Socotec Certification United Kingdom offers, and what it publishes

Socotec Certification UK audits organisations and issues certificates. Its UKAS schedule, issued 8 June 2026, accredits it for ISO/IEC 27001:2022 information security systems, with no sector restriction. Its signed impartiality policy bars its audit staff from consultancy or training work for a client in the two years before that client's audit. Appeals go to an independent reviewer and an independent panel.

Socotec Certification UK does not publish a price. Every route leads to a quote request. It does not publish indemnity cover for this company. A £1m indemnity certificate on the group's site covers a different SOCOTEC company's construction work. Its information security sector page names no clients or case studies.

Socotec Certification UK's UKAS schedule does not include ISO/IEC 42001, although the SOCOTEC group's global site says the group offers ISO 42001-accredited certification. A notice from the FSSC scheme owner, dated 20 July 2020, says UKAS suspended its accreditation status, which suspended its FSSC 22000 licence until 26 September 2020. The current schedule shows no restriction on its ISO 27001 work.

Strengths

  • Genuine, current and unrestricted UKAS accreditation (No. 0063) for Information Security Management Systems to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, verified directly against the live UKAS schedule (Issue No. 060, 8 June 2026).
  • A detailed, explicit published Impartiality Policy barring audit staff from consultancy or training work on a client for 2 years before that client's audit, and banning group offices from any full or partial consultancy partnership.
  • Broad multi-standard UKAS scope (six management-system standards, QMS, EMS, FSMS, ISMS, HSMS, EnMS) with named sector pages spanning nine industries, including a dedicated Information Security sector page.
  • A documented appeals process with an independent reviewer, an independent Appeals Panel, and Operations Director sign-off before any outcome is communicated.
  • Backed by the large international SOCOTEC testing/inspection/certification group (circa 15,000 employees, ~25 to 26 countries), giving operational scale and a UK entity trading continuously since 1988.

Things to check

  • Not UKAS-accredited for ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management systems), the live schedule (0063, Issue 060, 8 June 2026) lists only six other management-system standards, a gap versus several UKAS-accredited peers profiled on this site that already hold AIMS accreditation.
  • UKAS imposed a suspension of the body's own accreditation status in July 2020, which in turn suspended its FSSC 22000 licence until 26 September 2020, a genuine historical incident not self-disclosed on Socotec's own site and only found via the scheme owner's published notice; the current live schedule shows no restriction on ISMS today, so the incident appears resolved and is unrelated to ISO 27001 specifically.
  • No prices, rate card or worked cost example are published anywhere on the certification body's site for ISO 27001 or any other standard, all routes lead to a quote request.
  • No professional indemnity insurance or liability-cap disclosure was found for Socotec Certification United Kingdom Limited itself; a separate £1m PI certificate found on the wider group's site covers a different Socotec UK legal entity's non-asbestos construction work, not this certification body, so it cannot be attributed here.

Common questions

Does Socotec Certification UK publish its prices?

No. We found no prices, rate card or worked example; every route leads to a quote request.

Is it accredited for ISO 42001?

No. Its UKAS schedule, dated 8 June 2026, lists six management system standards, and ISO/IEC 42001 is not one of them.

Has its accreditation ever been suspended?

Yes. A notice from the FSSC scheme owner, dated 20 July 2020, says UKAS suspended its accreditation status, which suspended its FSSC 22000 licence until 26 September 2020. UKAS's sanctions summaries list no other action up to September 2026.

Has the UK Information Commissioner taken action against it?

No. The ICO's enforcement list returned no results for 'Socotec'.

Notes behind each thing to check

  • Not UKAS-accredited for ISO/IEC 42001 (AI management systems), the live schedule (0063, Issue 060, 8 June 2026) lists only six other management-system standards, a gap versus several UKAS-accredited peers profiled on this site that already hold AIMS accreditation. (UKAS Schedule of Accreditation 0063, Issue No. 060, 8 June 2026 (ukas.com), checked 19 September 2026)
(FSSC published notice, fssc.com, dated 20 July 2020, checked 19 September 2026)
  • No prices, rate card or worked cost example are published anywhere on the certification body's site for ISO 27001 or any other standard, all routes lead to a quote request. (Absence checked across socotec-certification-international.co.uk certification-solutions and certification-processes pages, 19 September 2026)
(Absence checked on socotec-certification-international.co.uk; PI document at static.socotec.co.uk is issued to a different entity/scope, checked 19 September 2026)
Six criteria, each scored 1 to 5, with the evidence for each.
CriterionScoreEvidence
Help when things go wrong 2/5 UKAS imposed a suspension of SOCOTEC Certification UK's own accreditation status in July 2020, which suspended its FSSC 22000 licence until 26 September 2020 (per FSSC's published notice, dated 20 July 2020), a real incident not self-disclosed by Socotec; the live 2026 UKAS schedule shows no current restriction on ISMS, so this appears historical and unrelated to ISO 27001, but it is a genuine documented track-record event most peers on this site do not carry.
Qualifications of the people who do the work 3/5 Live UKAS Schedule 0063 (Issue No. 060, issued 8 June 2026, checked 19 September 2026) confirms current, unrestricted accreditation for ISMS to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 under ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015, but the same schedule covers only five other standards and does not include ISO/IEC 42001 (AIMS), a gap versus several UKAS-accredited peers on this site.
What it publishes about fees 1/5 No prices, rate card or worked cost example were found anywhere on socotec-certification-international.co.uk for ISO 27001 or any other certification; every route leads to a quote request, and only independent third-party guides (not Socotec) publish indicative UK ISO 27001 price ranges.
Knowledge of your sector 3/5 Named sector pages exist for nine industries including a dedicated 'Information Security' sector, but that page carries no named case studies, client examples or tailored programme detail beyond a link to the general ISO/IEC 27001 certification-solutions page.
Independence from what it sells 5/5 Published Impartiality Policy (Rev 2, February 2021, signed 1 March 2021 by Operations Director Mo Ghaus) explicitly bars audit staff from consultancy or training work on a client for 2 years before its audit, bans group offices from any full or partial consultancy partnership, and prohibits implying certification would be easier with paid consultancy.
Who carries the risk if the advice is wrong 3/5 A documented appeals process exists (independent reviewer, independent Appeals Panel, Operations Director sign-off) and a published suspension/withdrawal procedure for clients, but no professional indemnity insurance or liability-cap disclosure was found for this specific legal entity; a separate group PI certificate found elsewhere covers a different Socotec UK entity's non-asbestos construction work.
