The ICO appeared in more answers than any other website in our data protection snapshot. It was cited in 19 of 74 recorded answers to 29 selected UK buyer questions on 10 October 2026.
Which websites did the answers cite?
DPO Centre and Evalian each appeared in 15 answers, followed by Engage Compliance in 13. Across the sample, the answers contained 534 recorded links from 257 websites.
The chart counts a website once per answer, even where that answer links to it several times. It does not rate the quality of the organisation or prove it suits a particular buyer.
The questions behind the counts
The set covered choosing a data protection officer, or DPO, finding advice, prices, qualifications, software and help after a breach. These are selected questions about buying and using help, rather than questions about law alone.
| Question asked | Recorded answers | Recorded links |
|---|---|---|
| best gdpr consultants uk | 3 | 18 |
| best outsourced dpo uk | 3 | 29 |
| can our it manager be the dpo | 2 | 17 |
What this snapshot can and cannot show
The records come from Gemini 2.5 Flash, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. All are Google services. Gemini used a search-enabled API, a software connection; the other services used our search-results collector.
Gemini and AI Mode covered every selected question. AI Overviews coverage was incomplete. Missing records remain unknown. The UK label describes the questions and does not establish the location of a human searcher using Gemini.
We count recorded links, including repeats within an answer. Website counts use the address’s host name, with www. removed and subdomains kept separate. The sample cannot show a trend, market share or which service gives better answers.
Read the source behind the answer
Tim Turner puts his preference plainly: he reads the actual source. This is a personal view from his LinkedIn post, separate from our citation counts.
When an answer helps shape a buying decision, open its links. Check whether the page addresses your question and whether it describes the service you need.
I just read the actual source.
A DPO shortlist still needs a role check
For a UK DPO appointment, the ICO points to professional qualities, experience and expert knowledge of data protection law. It also says the DPO needs independence, enough resources and access to the highest level of management.
The organisation remains responsible for complying with UK GDPR. A place in an AI answer does not change that responsibility.
The guides below cover checking qualifications, choosing an adviser and deciding whether an IT manager can also be the DPO.
